The chance to travel with an old friend prompted George Shaw’s decision to visit the Rome Italy Temple in February and the breathtaking surprise of what they found.

For George Shaw of Marietta, Georgia, the opportunity to travel with an old friend from Utah prompted his decision to take his wife to Rome, Italy for the temple open house of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His expectations were modest, but as he explains, “They were blown away right from the beginning with seeing the Rome Temple and then the Visitors’ Center.”
What struck him about the panels of stained glass with Christ called Come Unto Me were the vivid colors and the way the project showed how Christ is the crowning figure in Christianity and at the center of the faith of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
His wife DeEtte was surprised at how modern the stained and painted glass panels appeared. “It was almost like a photograph,” she says. “Art for me is so personal, but I can say that I am enthralled by the talent it took to create this art piece. Upon second glance, I was impressed with how well the parables are integrated into the center of a village with Christ as its center.”
This and other visitor stories are part part of a series covering the Come Unto Me exhibit created through The Roots of Humanity Foundation with help from Tom Holdman and several colleagues at Holdman Studios.
