Get a first look at the final design for the first floor Love panels, located next to Unity. As mentioned in our earlier post, Level One focuses on the individual entering the world and beginning their journey. Each pillar is seen from a slightly more youthful perspective. As such, these illustrations of Love include myths, fairytales, and stories from cultures across the globe.

Each individual scene is filled with a multitude of meaningful details that could realistically fill their own blog post. This will give a quick glance into each with the more subtle symbols and hidden meanings throughout to receive a deeper reflection at a later time.

Japanese Home Scene

Here you see several expressions of familial/relational love woven throughout: a mother welcoming a new child, sibling love, adolescent love, and fatherly love. There is even love shown from those who have gone before. Those loved ones may be unseen but are felt as support is given to a beloved nearing the end of their mortal journey.

Nordic Home Scene

In this section, the focus is heavily on motherly love. You see a young boy returning from a long hunt. He is discouraged and overwhelmed at his failure and is coming back empty-handed. Instead of disappointment, his mother rushes to embrace him in relief and love after fearing she might never see him again. Around them, other members of the household express love through their own work and contributions. You also see the Moon, often personified as a woman, reflecting the beautiful potential and creative energy women all over the world have to love, nurture, and mother human souls, whether they give birth to them or not.

Waterfall Section

Here, a young boy is shown dangling precariously over a tumultuous waterfall. We don’t know how he fell yet he is preserved from certain death due to the extraordinary loving effort of a young woman. This moment reflects compassion, protection, sacrifice, and selfless love, along with the willingness to step in when someone is vulnerable and in desperate need.

Kids at Play Scene

This scene shows a group of children playing together, oblivious to their different races, genders, and backgrounds; they are simply united in joy. One young boy is shown kicking down a fence where the message, “Keep Them Separate,” had been painted. Each of these images reinforce the truths that love, empathy, and belonging break down walls and bring us together. Children are excellent examples of the power of open hearts.

First Steps Scene

Here, the power of encouraging, reassuring, and supportive love is seen in the miracle of a baby’s first steps. Both parents are nearby, each expressing their love through their availability, confidence, enthusiasm, and joy as the child progresses in their own journey.
